NFL Week 7

Alright football fans Tony and I are back to make picks after a recreational break last week. Week 5 was our first time doing picks together and I put up a 10-3 record while Tony was right behind me at 9-4. Let’s see how we fair in week 7.

Cardinals V.S. Vikings- Vikings have been on a tear and coming off a tough loss last week, I believe in purple right now. Vikings win

Arizona started good with being 4-0, but lost the last two games to the rams and bills.(Head Scratchers) The Vikings could be 5-1 but RG3 ran all over them and lost a close one. Vikings are home and they are legit, so I take the Vikings. (Tony)

Cowboys V.S. Panthers- Romo and the Cowboys just can’t get it right, I think the bye week and the talk with his dad has Cam on the right path. Panthers win

I will keep this simple. Panthers literally showed me NOTHING this season. Plus Cam Newton is still doing some soul searching, So I’m picking the Cowboys, not cause they win, just cause Panthers lose. (Tony)

Saints V.S. Bucs- Jonathon Vilma being active today is going to be an emotional lift for this Saints D. Saints win

Last week the Bucs had 463 total yards at home against the chiefs.. The same team that put up numbers on the saints at their home, cause the Bucs at home and Saints are not the team we are accustom to seeing, I will take Bucs (Tony)

Packers V.S. Rams- Will we see the Packers from last week in Houston, or the team that blew an 18 point lead in Indy? Packers win.

Aaron Rodgers threw for 6 passing TD’s against the undefeated Texans in Houston, now they are playing the Rams, Packers win and its not even close. Expect A-Rod to throw for 5 or possibly 6 TD’s AGAIN! (Tony)

Redskins V.S. Giants- Remember when Osi called RGIII “Bob” in the offseason? Yeah he is going to know his name today. Giants should win but they won’t. Redskins win

RG3 vs Eli2Time. (I made that up haha) but anyway, RG3 looks elite already, but he is not on Eli’s level. Plus they are in New York, RG3 won’t survive pass rush, Giants win in close one! (Tony)

Ravens V.S. Texans- The loss of Ray Lewis is huge but this Raven team is more than just one player, they get one for their fallen leader. Ravens win

Ravens vs Texans can easily be game of the week, I honestly believe the Texans are going to defend home field after getting dogged at home. Ravens defense has a lot of holes because of injuries. No Ray Lewis, No D. So Texans win a close one. (Tony)

Titans V.S. Bills- Just not a game I would want to watch. I’m forced to pick, Buffalo offense can score when they want to I think they will today. Bills win

Titans vs Bills is a tough one, because these teams are not consistent, but again I chose the home team cause the Bills has more talent on their roster. (Tony)

Browns V.S. Colts- Tale of two teams last week. Browns got a huge win last week against Cincy, while the Colts got embarrassed in NY. Colts bounce back at home. Colts win

As a Colts fan i was embarrassed at the lost they had in NY. Colts at home will play hard to defend the home turf. I have them beating browns even though I expect Richardson to break 100 yards. Colts in close one. (Tony)

Jets V.S. Patriots- Big divisional game here. Jets come off a huge win, while the Patriots lost a heartbreaker in Seattle. Who am I kidding?? Patriots win Patriots will run wild on the Jets. That simple.

Last week win for the Jets was a fluke, offense is still terrible, defense will NOT hold the patriots. Expect patriots to score 35+. (Tony)

Jaguars V.S. Raiders- This game is going to be a physical hard hitting game and the tougher team wins. Jaguars will run all over Oakland but being in the black hole is too much. Raiders win a close one

Raiders at home will have McFadden run all over the Jets. Jaguars are a team I have NO confidence in, even if they have MJD. Raiders win. (Tony)

Steelers V.S. Bengals- A primetime divisional matchup both teams need a win to keep close to Baltimore in the division. The Steelers have been in this position before. Steelers win one on the road.

Steelers vs Bengals will be a game to watch. SNF on NBC. I would go with Steelers, but they haven’t played the old steelers. Bengals will show their passing game is legit. Bengals win by a FG. (Tony)

Lions V.S. Bears- Monday Night Football matchup. Only thing I can think of is last year in Detroit on the same Monday Night stage, Jay Cutler was running for his life from that Detroit pressure. After that close win last week I think Detroit has that swagger back. Lions win.

MNF Lions and Bears. Stafford will throw 2-3 picks against that Bears defense on the road. Bears win by 10. Bears need to run the ball, put it Cutlers hands and he will put it in the defense hands. (Tony)

Last season the Nets went 22-44. 4th worst in the eastern conference.

All last season the New Jersey Nets were anticipating the possibility of signing Dwight Howard and keeping Deron Williams and having a dynamic duo. But the Nets dropped out of the race to get Dwight Howard and Howard is now on the Los Angeles Lakers. The biggest news of them all, the Nets are no longer in New Jersey, they are in Brooklyn.

Going to Brooklyn wasn’t going to make the Nets a championship contender though, and the organization knew that. The Nets had to make some offseason moves to compete with the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, and the New York Knicks. The Brooklyn Nets offseason moves: G Joe Johnson, F Reggie Evans, F Andray Blatche, G Josh Childress, and G C.J. Watson. They picked up Armon Johnson through FA and the Nets drafted G Tyshawn Taylor from Kansas. I was really impressed with the moves the Nets made this offseason, I give them a grade A-.

The Brooklyn Nets starting lineup will be Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, and Brook Lopez. Avery Johnson will be calling the shots for this team this year. By far this will be the best team coach Johnson has had since he been apart of the organization.

I project the Nets to be 46-36 this year because of the depth of their roster, and they are playing in a weaker conference. The Nets can possibly be the 5th or 6th seed. But I will say don’t expect the Nets to be in the finals just yet, give them a few years and they will compete.

The hype will be there from the Brooklyn Nets fans though, because they want to say the Nets are king of New York. Is it true? I don’t think so, I believe the Knicks will be a little better cause they are a little deeper and they have chemistry within the roster.

A formula of success for the Nets is this. D-Will with this lineup SHOULD have some stats like 24 points and 9 assist. MVP type of year. Joe Johnson has to be the #1 scorer and shoot the ball like he wants to be that guy. In close game situations Johnson can not disappear, he has to be this team’s go to scorer. Gerald Wallace has to be the team’s lockdown defender, guard the LeBron’s and Carmelo’s in the league. Improve on his jump shot and continue to be the finisher at the rim. Kris Humphries needs to have another 14 point 11 rebound a game performance like he had last year. Last but not least and arguably the most important piece of the puzzle. Brook Lopez, scoring almost 20 points a game for the last two years is great for a second or third option on the Nets, but his biggest issue is rebounding. Over the years his rebounding has dropped from 8, to 6, and now 3 rebounds a game. That’s just terrible. If the Nets wants to be taken seriously there big man needs to get dirty down low and help grab rebounds to start some fast breaks for Williams and Johnson. If the Nets can do this I believe they will make a lot of noise this season. The team will be all in the media, but they will have to ignore that. Stay focused, play one game at a time, and they can play some serious ball this year.

The Sacramento Kings ended the 2011-12 campaign with a lack luster 22-44 record in a lockout shortened season, compounding a .333 winning percentage. The Kings were the second worst team in the west, caused mostly by a 6-27 road record, the worst road record in the western conference. January 6 the Kings fired Coach Paul Westphal, and longtime assistant Keith Smart was placed as the interim coach for the rest of the season. The Kings decided to hire Smart on as full time coach despite finishing the season 9-31.
The core of the Kings are most certainly still there with no departures to speak of and this is definitely a franchise on the rise. But there are some questions that need to be answered. Will Tyreke finally show his true colors and be the franchise player the Kings are looking for, or just another face? Can Cousins be controlled? Can this team just coexist?
Isaiah Thomas came into his own, coming from the last pick in the draft to the Kings starting PG. While Marcus Thornton became one of the leagues emerging stars. Tyreke Evans is still looking for that breakout year that he had his rookie season, Evans averaged 16.5 ppg shooting .202 from beyond the arc both career lows. DeMarcus Cousins on the other hand had a breakout year averaging 18.1 ppg and 11 boards both career highs, only thing holding Cousins back is his lack of maturity. So what does this all mean for this season?
The Kings won the 5th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, and took Kansas Forward Thomas Robinson to pair up with Cousins in the frontcourt. Point Guard Isaiah Thomas comes off a promising rookie campaign and I expect him to blossom with newly acquired guard Aaron Brooks as a backup. Marcus Thornton is a stud and I don’t expect that to change this season. I think the frontcourt is going to be just fine but it will go as far as DeMarcus Cousins will take it with a young Robinson learning the ropes of the NBA, 22 year old Cousins has to mature and they will be great. But my x-factor for these young Kings would definitely be Tyreke Evans. Coming into his fourth year Evans has to step up and become the leader the Kings need and produce to the capabilities that we all know he can. No worries though Kings fans he is only 23 future is very bright, as it for this whole Sacramento organization.

We are a little behind but as promised TheOverTime317.tumblr.com still will do every team in the NBA! Today is October 8th, and we are going to cover the New Orleans Hornets.

Last offseason on December 14, the Hornets traded away their franchise player Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers. In that trade the Hornets received Eric Gordon, Al-Farouq Aminu, and Chris Kaman with a few draft picks.

During that season the Hornets new star player Eric Gordon was injured for 57 games last season. In those games he only averaged 20 points a game. Coach Monty Williams did not have a star player to run his team, so knowing that, the Hornets struggled and landed the worst record in the west.

In this year’s NBA offseason the Hornets had a .137% chance to get the number one overall draft pick. Somehow with three teams having a worst record than the Hornets, New Orleans still managed to get the #1 overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft. With Anthony Davis on the draft board, everyone knew immediately Anthony Davis was heading the big N.O. Also with the #1 overall pick the Hornets also had the 10th pick in draft. With the depth of the class, having a top 10 pick would be great as well for the organization. On draft day, the Hornets picked Davis #1, Austin Rivers #10, and Darius Miller 46th overall.

With Davis, Rivers and Miller heading heading to New Orleans, this gives the Hornets young star power to match up with the 23 year old Eric Gordon.

As the Hornets are in rebuilding mode, they have decided to get rid of a lot of players on that roster and start building for the future. List of players that left N.O. Is C Gustavo Ayon (traded to Orlando), F/C Emeka Okafor (traded to Washington), F Trevor Ariza (traded to Washington), C Chris Kaman (signed with Dallas), F Carl Landry (signed with Golden State); F Rashard Lewis (waived, signed with Miami), G Marco Belinelli (signed with Chicago), G Jarrett Jack (traded to Golden State), C Brad Miller (retired), F Darryl Watkins (traded to Philadelphia).

The Hornets are going young and hopefully aim to be the next OKC Thunder. To start heading in that path they need a young team and those players have to play with each other for several years.

The Hornets offseason pickups, C Anthony Davis (first round, first pick overall), G Austin Rivers (first round, 10th pick overall), F Ryan Anderson (sign-and-trade with Orlando, four years, $34 million), C Robin Lopez (sign-and-trade with Phoenix, three years, $15 million), F Hakim Warrick (acquired from Phoenix), G Roger Mason, Jr. (one year, $1.22 million), and F Darius Miller (second round, 46th pick overall).

With those pickups the Hornets starting lineup will be G Greivis Vasquez, G Eric Gordon, F Al-Farouq Aminu, F Ryan Anderson, and C Anthony Davis. Soon I believe Rivers will be in the starting lineup, he just has to adapt to going from SG to PG, like how Russell Westbrook career started.

This New Orleans Hornets team is young and talented. They have the right coach in Monty Williams, who is a mentor and a defensive specialist. I’m not sure if the Hornets can sneak into the playoffs this season, it’s a big maybe. But I predict a slow start for the Hornets, but once mid season hits and those young players pick up the flow, they can be a dangerous team on the break. I predict the Hornets to go 35-47. It might look like a bad record, but playing in the west will do that to you. I see good things in the future for the Hornets!

Ok so I got Tony to join me this week with making picks. So I’m going to do this a little differently now, I’m still going to keep up with my total score but I’m also going to start over with Tony. So here is week 5.
Eagles V.S. Steelers- Steelers at home after a bye week can’t go against that. Steelers win.(Jourdan)
I have to disagree with my friend here, Eagles will run run run, Eagles win close one. (Tony)
Packers V.S. Colts- Love my Colts but I have to be realistic, Packers are too much. Packers win. (Jourdan)
Upset? Freeny back from injury and Colts off of bye week. Plus coach is sick, Colts win emotional game. (Tony)
Browns V.S. Giants- Osi told Trent to “come get the candy” this week. He will but Giants win. (Jourdan)
Too easy, and Giants are at home? I pick Giants (Tony)
Falcons V.S. Redskins- Tough game on the Road closer than most people think. Falcons win go to 5-0 (Jourdan)
This is a very tough game, but Falcons are elite, White cant be stopped, Falcons win (Tony)
Dolphins V.S. Bengals- Bengals and Andy Dalton have been really dominate this season, this continues. Bengals win. (Jourdan)
Honestly would of went with the Dolphins, BUT they are not home and Bush is not 100% so i go Bengals (Tony)
Ravens V.S. Chiefs- In the past it’s been hard to win in Arrowhead, not this season. Ravens win. (Jourdan)
I believe that Chiefs-Saints game was no fluke, i pick Chiefs at home! (Tony)
Seahawks V.S. Panthers- Panthers lost a heartbreaker in Atlanta last week, Cam bounces back from that fumble, big win at home. Panthers win. (Jourdan)
Cam has to show me something this week, and he will Panthers win (Tony)
Bears V.S. Jaguars- As long as Jay Cutler and the offense do their job Jacksonville is in trouble. Bears win (Jourdan)
I believe in Marshall NOT Cutler, bears win (Tony)
Broncos V.S. Patriots- Manning V.S. Brady once again, one of the greatest rivalries of our time continues. But these aren’t Peyton’s Colt teams. Patriots win.
Tom Brady is to much to handle at home, Patrioys puts up 45+ with a win (Tony)
Bills V.S. 49ers- Did you see how they did the Jets last week?!? 49ers win. (Jourdan)
49ers.. to easy (Tony)
Titans V.S. Vikings- The 4-1 Vikings, yes the Vikings have looked great this year, while the Titans on the other hand have struggled to compete. Vikings 5-1? Vikings win. (Jourdan)
Vikings are pretty legit! plus this game they are home, i pick Vikings (Tony)
Chargers V.S. Saints- Sunday Night Football, I picked the Saints to get their first win last week in Green Bay, will I do it again? YES! Saints win.
I cant see the Chargers winning on the road in NO on Sunday night, Saints win close one (Tony)
Texans V.S. Jets- Monday Night Football, Texans have a 0 in the loss column while the Jets put up a 0 on the score board in San Fran last week. I see another shutout in primetime. Maybe it’s Tebow time?? Texans win.
I HOPE TEBOW NEVER PLAYS! haha cause it will not work, but anyway Texans win! Cant be stopped this season. Jets needs to gather themsleves.

Today is October 3rd, which means TheOverTime317.tumblr.com is going to start on the Cleveland Cavaliers. Last season the Cleveland Cavaliers went 21-45. Tied for 3rd worst record in the NBA.

Last offseason the Cavaliers drafted Kyrie Irving, the 6’3 191 pound PG out of Duke #1 overall in the NBA. Next, the Cavaliers drafted Tristan Thompson, the 6’9 227 pound PF out of Texas #4 overall.

Kyrie Irving had a very successful rookie year getting 18.5 points per game with 5.4 assist. With that, Irving won rookie of the year.

On the other hand it was a slow start for their #4 overall pick Tristan Thompson who averaged 8.2 points and 6.5 rebounds. But Cavs Nation hang in there because I believe he has raw talent. Just give him time!

There are several things to look forward to for this up coming season, one, Kyrie Irving second season as he proves he is an elite PG. Two, a new look on their draft picks, Dion Waiters and Tyler Zeller, and three, will the depth of the roster take them to the playoffs?

Key losses for the Cavs team is Antawn Jamison, Anthony Parker, Manny Harris, Christian Eyenga, and Ryan Hollins.

Plus speaking of their rosters, the Cavs has a little more depth on their roster this year. The projected starting 5 is Kyrie Irving, C.J. Miles, Alonzee Gee, Tristan Thompson, and Anderson Varejo. The depth comes in off the bench with Daniel Gibson, Dion Waiters, Donald Sloan, Jeremy Pargo, Omri Casspi, Luke Walton, Kelenna Azubuike, Michael Eric, Jon Leuer, Samardo Samuels, and Luke Harangody.

*Don’t expect to see Dion Waiters be the 3rd string SG for to long, when he gets his feet wet I believe he will be starting soon.*

My projections for Cavaliers is this. They will end up 10th overall in the east. Record of 37-45. Not leaning on cavs being to bad, they just have a young roster. Once they get a year or two under their belt, the Cavs will be talking playoffs. Also, Kyrie will go off this year averaging a BOLD 22 and 9.1 assist a game. Cavs fans should really be excited for this upcoming year, they have young star talent on their team. Just give the Cavs more time to grow, and they will be a force in the future, maybe a east coast OKC? Just maybe.
