Who is the better team in the Big Apple, The New York Knicks or the Brooklyn Nets?

First let’s look at last season and compare the teams..

Last season the Knicks were 36-30 in a shortened 66 game season while the Brooklyn Nets finished 22-44. The Knicks clearly had the better record, but does that make them the better team? The first game the two teams played against each other was during the Linsanity era and the Knicks won 99-92, Lin was the high scorer with 25. The next time they played each other was at NY again and this time the Nets pulled out the win 100-92 while Dwill popped off for 38! Going 8-14 for 3’s that game. Season series is tied 1-1 at this point. Last game the Knicks won in Brooklyn 104-95 and Carmelo scored 33 to give his team an important win while they were gearing up for the NBA playoffs.

Next is the NBA offseason moves..

The Knicks added Marcus Camby, Jason Kidd, Raymond Felton, Kurt Thomas, and Ronnie Brewer. Which adds a deeper front court and a bench to the Knicks roster.

The Brooklyn Nets this offseason picked up Joe Johnson, Reggie Evans, C.J. Watson, Andray Blatche, Josh Childress, Jerry Stackhouse, and the new draft pick Tyshawn Taylor.

It’s an even battle for the offseason moves but I believe the Nets getting Joe Johnson makes their offseason acquisitions a little better.

Next, the Teams starting lineups..

Knicks starting 5: Raymond Felton, Iman Shumpert, Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire, and Tyson Chandler.

The Nets Starting 5: Derron Williams, Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries and Brook Lopez.

This is the toughest one to compare but I believe the Knicks starting 5 is a tad bit better, and I’m going with them because of the experience the team has together.

I think the Knicks will be a better team this year because they are on a mission, NY fans do not want to see their team get knocked out in the 1st round again this year. The Nets will have to take time for their lineup to get accustomed to each other.

A look ahead to the scheduled games between the Knicks and Nets..

First game of the season they play each other on TNT Nov. 1st @ Brooklyn. The second matchup they have against each other is on ESPN Dec 11 @ Brooklyn. Third game is 8 days later in NY on ESPN Dec 19, close to Christmas time. And the last game of the year the two teams play each other on NBATV Jan 21 in NY again.

All these match-ups are before the NBA All-Star break in Houston, by that time we will know who is the better team in NY!

Who do you think deserves the crown in New York’s concrete jungle??
